Consultation:
The consultation is a vital educational opportunity for patients as each case is unique and the procedure is a highly bespoke treatment. FUE EXPLAINED Potential Patients are recommended to attend a physical consultation for a detailed assessment of their cause of hair loss and suitability for non-surgical and surgical options to retain and restore hair. The quality of the donor area (the back of the scalp) and the area to be treated along with patient objectives should be discussed in some detail to ensure realistic objectives and the optimum result for the patient.
The FUE Procedure:
FUE involves the precise extraction of individual grafts, unlike older techniques of transplantation (FUT or the strip procedure) FUE can provide faster healing as it is minimally invasive. The extracted follicles are removed from the donor area and carefully placed in the affected area of the scalp at the correct angulation and density to provide a natural and permanent result. The patient’s health history and procedure objectives are reviewed prior to commencing the procedure which begins with the planning and marking of the areas to be restored. The first stage of the procedure involves the doctor anaesthetising the donor area and beginning the process of extracting the hair follicles according to the procedure plan. The hair follicles are extracted and passed to the nursing team for quality assessment to prepare for the implantation stage. The patient has a short break after the Extraction stage is completed and is able to relax and have lunch while the extracted hair follicles are being prepared. The second stage of the procedure involves the artistic recreation of the area where the hair is to be restored. The doctors anaesthetise the recipient area and then begin adding the follicles individually to the restoration region.
Recovery and Post-Operative Care:
The final step of the procedure is a personal post-operative care discussion with the operating Doctor to discuss how to take care of the newly implanted grafts and ensure a fast recovery and healing time. The average healing time for the recipient and donor area is 7 days depending on the size of the surgery and individual healing characteristics We have an extensive aftercare service which involves a review of progress at the 6 month stage and also around the 12 month period to assess the final result.
